Nothing says I’m in jail and being processed like a Raiders Sweatshirt. Go Raider Fan!
I’m sitting on a couch that is not my own and watching a TiVo-less television. This can be a frustrating experience; commercials, having to channel surf through garbage, all of these things remind me why I love my TiVo. Anyway, enough about Tivo and on to the discovery we’re talking about. I came across TruTV (formerly CourtTV) and what looked like Cops but was so much better; Inside American Jail. This show is a reality show where they film the processing center of a local jail. Drunks, addicts and thieves being processed and put in jail is wildly entertaining.
All of the moments that I wait for when watching Cops fill every moment of this show. Its like you can see it coming, someone is wiggling around a little during a pat down and then BAM, they’re on the ground getting pepper sprayed with 5 officers cuffing them. These men and women are always claiming to be innocent and misunderstood. “I didn’t do anything” is the common cry and I have to admit it makes me laugh every single time.
So if you’re a sicko like myself and enjoy watching the depravity of man via cameras following law enforcement, then give Inside American Jail a shot. Throw it on the TiVo and see what you think. It is worth a place on your Season Pass Manager list. Ohh… beautiful TiVo.
You had me at “Hello”, as in your cover of the Lionel Richie Song… Nevermind, I just look silly.
Wednesday, May 21, 2008- 7:02 pm PDT School is owning me right now and it saddens me to say I don’t have the time to sit and watch the big announcement tonight. Last night I only caught the last 2 performances because I was in the Library. I will watch all the hours of Idol Saturday, but I couldn’t wait to find out who won… I had to know as soon as possible. In fact, I wanted to know when it was announced. So I had a friend that was at the Nokia Theatre text message me when it was announced. Since they tape the show live for the east coast, I got a text a little after 7pm.
“COOK WINS!” I yet out a YAWP in the library. (See below for the definition of Yawp.) I then get a little nervous that my friend is pulling my chain. I remembered a friend that’s on the east coast this week visiting family. I called them from the bathroom to gain confirmation. This may seem silly, but I asked the person to play me the announcement on their TiVo so I could hear it myself. I did this because I have given false announcements hundreds of times and I am deserving and due to have the joke played on me.
After triple confirmation (Wikipedia is a reliable source, right?) I am happy to revel in the fact that David Cook is the winner of Season 7, American Idol. This is not just a victory for Cook, this is a victory for good music. It finally triumphed over 13-year-old-girls. I personally spent 2 hours voting last night for Cook. I couldn’t tell you exactly how many votes I cast, but my best estimate is over 200. (This kind of puts the numbers they brag about into perspective.) I felt like I needed to do my part to counter the texting fiends.
Overall this was a great season of the show. While it became a little boring at the end as it became obvious who America wanted to see in the finals, it was still a fun ride. It will be interesting to see where Cook goes in his career. He will spend the summer touring with the other contestants, meeting his contractual obligation. As much as I enjoy the show, I have no desire to see this “Pop Tart American Idol Tour.” I hate the weekly group performances, why would I pay $75 to see them again. Anyway, we likely won’t hear any new music from Cook until February 09.
So, now I walk the aisles of the library with little spring in my step. I will watch the shows and post a full article early next week. In the mean time, I can breathe a sigh of relief and know that the Axis of Evil has been defeated… DAVID COOK WINS!
clarification
Here is the definition of a Yawp.
I am reminded how good this movie is. I think I’m going to watch it this weekend. Usually when Robin Williams does a dramatic role he grows the beard, because beards equal drama. This is an exception to that rule.
I wish my teachers spun me around until poetry came out.
This is just one example of why I absolutely LOVE this couple. They make my heart smile.
So, I’ve had this blog for a few months now. I tend to write about things I encounter each day. Rather than talk about old favorites that seem obvious, I talk about whatever crosses my mind. Okay, tonight and old favorite crossed my mind. I laughed so hard at the last two episodes of The Office. I probably woke my neighbors with my guffaw! I got home and watched an episode on Hulu.com (which is great by the way, check it out!) and another on TiVo. How great is the freedom of Hulu and TiVo? While it’s exciting to not having to worry about missing your favorite shows, more importantly its thrilling to have shows that are worth watching.
The Office is worth watching, buying and watching again. If you are not watching episodes twice, then you are missing some great moments that are revealed in your second viewing. This is a testament to the directors and editors. While this show is brilliantly written, having great characters and edited in a way to capture every moment to the point where simple cuts make me laugh. While I could go on about many aspects of the show, I’d like to focus on my favorite part; Jim & Pam.
I’ve never seen a show capture an organic and real couple. Even loveable characters were always split up for the sake of drama. I remember listening to a commentary track on Friends where one of the creators is talking about how they constantly had to keep Ross & Rachel broken up because it made for better TV. Always wondering whether Ross & Rachel would remain “on a break” was a part of why I loved this great show. The exact opposite is currently the case for The Office. I love tuning in and seeing people that I relate to, relate to each other. They haven’t sacrificed their own personalities and genuinely enjoy each other without seeming sappy or boring.
My hope is that the producers of this great show keep them together. I was saying the other day that it would be great to see them eventually get married. I’d want to see them experience life together. Not every show has to be the fairy tale quest, it can be about the “ever after”. I think that I will require the next girl I am dating to watch 4 seasons of The Office and ask if she likes the dynamic between Jim & Pam. If she says yes, then I will kiss her and smile. If she says no, I will curse her and cry. I know the stakes are high, but I stand behind my rubric.
So are Jim & Pam the best couple on Television? Share your opinions and if you have one, share you’re alternative couple.
I found Demetri Martin's comedy central special a few years ago and it cracked me up. I was happy to see him on the daily show a few yea...
WHY BLOG?
I am not saying my thoughts are more important than yours. I just post mine on the internet all the time. This is my place to post things I've seen or things I've thought that are too long for a tweet and too short for a book.
